Scoring: New Reciever Training

New Reviewer Training

Overview - New Reviewer

Note: The presentation above is in MS Powerpoint format. If you do not have Powerpoint installed on your PC, you can download a free Powerpoint viewer here.

You have been emailed the materials for the New Reviewer Training. You may not have time to go through it all. If this were the case, then I would direct you to read the most important item. That is the QCR Protocol. It may be easier to print it out and read through it. Along with that, the Pink Sheet is also important. It is a synopsis of the protocol.

The protocol is setup in the following way:

Pages 1 through 9 are general information about the family – the type of services the child and family are receiving. The caseworker will fill in this information for the reviewer.
Page 10 is an overview of the protocol indicators. They are separated into two domains – Status and System Performance.
Pages 11 – 32 are the indicators for the status domains.
Page 33 is the overall Child Status domain scoring information.
Pages 35 – 56 are the System Performance indicators.
Page 57 is the Overall System domain scoring information.
Page 58 is the Case Story Outline information.
Page 59 is a help page for scoring difficult indicators. Page 60 is a list of the Practice Model Principles and the Practice Model Skills Development.

The indicators pages (11-32, 35-56) are set up as follows with the exception of the Satisfaction indicator:

The left page on top: The indicator name bolded and large type.
Top half of left page: Below the name is the definition of that indicator. It is bold typed. See page 11. Safety is at the top then the definition is defined below it.
Top half of left page: Below the definition is an expanded explanation of that definition. It is not all bold typed as with the definition.
Left side, left column lower half: Probe questions to help in scoring.
Left side, right column lower half: Place for reviewer comments.

Right side: Rating descriptions. Some will continue probe questions on top of that page but most will have just the rating information.
Right side bottom section: A place to describe the reviewers reasoning for their score.

Satisfaction.
Left side top half is as described earlier. Left side, bottom is a scaling questionnaire to ask the child, parent/guardian and/or substitute caregiver.
Right side is same as other indicators.

The training story is for your use as an example for your writing and for you to use as a way to evaluate your understanding of the protocol. It is a real story written by a reviewer. Identifying information has been changed. You may read through the story and determine the score you would give on a particular indicator. In the regular training, we assign teams of two or more to evaluate particular indicators. The reviewers then evaluate those indicators and report back to the rest of those in training explaining their reasoning for their score.
